(LaPresse) The migrant emergency in South America continues. Indeed, Mexico has suddenly become a kind of limbo for those who dream of entering the United States and who have been turned away in recent weeks as a result of Washington’s strict new policy: Indeed, Joe Biden’s government has mandated that only those who apply online and arrive by plane will be admitted, while those who cross the border illegally will simply be deported. Suffering most from the U.S. squeeze are Venezuelans, about 70 percent of those who entered the U.S. illegally in the first nine months of 2022, but also Mexico where these streams of rejected people then flow in. Case in point is the small town of San Pedreo Tapanatepec, which has had to take in 7,000 migrants since the beginning of October, 75% of whom are from Venezuela itself.
