(LaPresse) – Nine people have died in Iran in protests that erupted following the death in Tehran of 22-year-old Mahsa Amini, who died after being arrested by moral police because she was not wearing her headscarf properly. The BBC reports this, pointing out that among the nine people killed was a 16-year-old boy who was caught up in gunfire when security forces opened fire on protesters. The uprising has spread to more than 20 major cities, including the capital. Videos posted online related to Wednesday’s protests show women waving their veils in the air or burning them. In the capital, policemen on motorcycles can be seen firing on activists. In Amol, in the north of the country, protesters put officers on the run.
