MTV ha annunciato le nomination di tutte le categorie di genere neutro per i 'VMAs' 2018. La lista include artisti che, grazie alla loro portata e influenza, hanno contribuito a elevare la rilevanza della musica. Cardi B ha ricevuto nomination in 10 categorie, incluse Video, Song e Artist of the Year, mentre The Carters se ne sono assicurati otto, incluse Video of the Year, Best Collaboration e Best Hip Hop per l'ultimo singolo 'APESH**T'. Tra gli altri artisti che si contendono l'award ci sono Childish Gambino, Drake e Bruno Mars.

I VMAs andranno in onda dal Radio City Music Hall di New York lunedì 20 agosto attraverso la rete globale di canali di MTV in oltre 180 paesi e territori, raggiungendo oltre mezzo miliardo di famiglie in tutto il mondo. In Italia lo show sarà trasmesso solo su MTV (in esclusiva su Sky canale 130) lunedì 20 agosto in diretta dalle 3.00 del mattino e martedì 21 agosto alle 21.00 nella versione sottotitolata.

"È già stato un anno grandioso per la musica e i VMAs di quest'anno porteranno le cose ad un livello completamente nuovo", ha detto Bruce Gilmer, Head of Music and Music Talent, Global Entertainment Group, Viacom. "Lo straordinario gruppo di nominati ci ha colpito per il loro talento e ispirato con la loro creatività – e quando li metti insieme per una notte, tutto diventa possibile".

La collaborazione di MTV con Instagram per svelare le nomination su IGTV con un gruppo di top creators segna la prima volta in cui un award show utilizza la nuova piattaforma per questo tipo di annuncio. Con una reach combinata di oltre 23 milioni di follower solo su Instagram, il team di Instagrammers arruolati da MTV comprende Nyle DiMarco, Tessa Brooks, Bretman Rock, Scotty Sire, Toddy Smith e molti altri. Dai pappagalli veri ai cori gospel, dai video di allenamento alle vasche da bagno piene di paperelle di gomma, ad ogni creator è stato affidato il compito di svelare una categoria e i suoi nominati con scenette eccentriche che anticipassero tutto ciò che potrà accadere ai 'VMA'.
