Italy's and Juventus goalkeeper Gianluigi Buffon has been shortlisted for the 2016 Ballon d'Or award by journalists of the French Football magazine, and the chairman of the Italian Olympic Committee (Coni) said on Monday that he roots for him. "It would be a great thing for both Buffon and the Italian football movement if he won the Ballon d'Or", chairman Giovanni Malagò said. "Maybe it would compensate for some sort of a lack of consideration in the past, I am really rooting for him in a special way", Malagò added.
"For me, Buffon is not only a great goalkeeper, the captain of the Italian national team and a caps record holder, but he is the best overall", the chairman of Coni then highlighted. "Together with Francesco Totti, he is among those who can represent our movement, for both their personal stories and their careers", he concluded.
